ReviewMe… Easy to cheat if you are a publisher…

Like half of the rest of the Internet, I just signed up my BlackBerry Blog RIMarkable up for ReviewMe, a sponsored blog post advertising system. If you want a review of ReviewMe, read my post ReviewMe or ReviewMe Not. What I want to talk about here is how easy I think it might be for advertisers to cut ReviewMe out of the system.

The way I see it, ReviewMe is taking such a large cut for playing the middleman that they might just cut themselves right of many opportunities all together. Some review on very popular sites will cost as much as $500 for advertisers. Publisher will, however, only get $250 for their trouble and ReviewMe keeps $250 for hooking the advertiser and the publisher up.

What happens when the advertiser, knowing that only $250 goes to the publisher they pick to write a review of their product or service, decides to go straight to the publisher and asks them to write a review independently of ReviewMe and offers to pay $300 directly for a review? An advertiser can just as easily pay a blogger via PayPal as ReviewMe can. I see it as a win, win situation for both the publisher and the advertiser.
