Put your keywords into your blog titles

I have finally to pay attention to some rules around Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and have noticed that on one of my main blogs, I have been ignoring one of the main edicts in SEO.

Put your keywords into your blog titles

I run a blog about BlackBerry devices called RIMarkable. I guess that as far as blogs about BlackBerries go, RIMarkable is fairly popular. It ranks ranks well on the search engines for several keywords, however, doesn’t rank at all for the keyword BlackBerry.

To be honest, I never really noticed for the first year and a half because until last week I didn’t really pay attention to search engine rankings (SERP). Know that I am looking, however, I notice that I don’t even rank at all for the number one thing that my blog is about.

Up until today I didn’t use the word BlackBerry RIMarkable’s title. Individual posts would have the word BlackBerry in them but the main landing page just had the word RIMarkable in the title. About 65% of my traffic comes in through the main page and if you looked at the title, you would have no idea that the blog was about Blackberry devices unless your caught the play on the name RIMarkable. The company that makes the BlackBerry is call RIM.

Hindsight is 20/20 as they say because I imagine that not ranking for that all important keyword has limited the amount of people that could have found my site via a search engine. Now the goal is to rank for BlackBerry as quickly as possible to make up for years of lost ground.
