My click thru rates are three times higher on the weekends
- 2 Comment
Ever since I have started seriously paying attention to my stats I have noticed that my click thru rates are significantly higher on the weekends than during the week. I make a little less on the weekends, which I have always attributed to less traffic, however, when I really take a look at traffic patterns, I should be making a whole heck of a lot less than I am except for the fact that my click thru rates are three times higher on average on the weekends as compared to during the week.
Another thing that I have noticed is that, on at least the blogs that exhibit this trend, the overwhelming majority of weekend traffic is first time visitors from search engines. I have known for a while that my search engine traffic converts better than returning visitors, but, I am not sure why it converts better on the weekends. Believe me, I am not complaining, but I am just wondering why this is.
In any case, I need to figure out how to get more repeat visitors clicking on adds during the week. Maybe we will try some different colors or possibly different ad placements to try to combat ad blindness.

I don’t think you’re getting better conversion on your weekend search engine traffic. Rather, search engine visitors probably convert well at all times, but they are a greater fraction of your weekend traffic (because regular readership tails off). Thus, you end up with a higher CTR on lower overall traffic.

I get very few clickthroughs in general. Single digits per day. But, my highest day is always Saturday (5-10 clicks) and my lowest day is always Sunday (always 0 clicks). Throughout the rest of the week I normally get 1-3 clicks a day. People must spend more time away from their computers on Sunday then the rest of the week.
